4 Ways To Keep That "Fresh From The Dentist" Feeling

Posted on: 24 March 2017

While visiting the dentist is not very high on most people's list of favorite activities, most people do enjoy how fresh and deeply clean their teeth feel right after a dental cleaning. The good news is that by spending a little extra effort on your oral care routine, you can keep that feeling going long after your professional cleaning. Here are four ways to do so:

Try a Water Flosser

One of the reasons your teeth feel so squeaky clean after a visit to the dentist is all the water they squirt in your mouth and in between your teeth to powerfully rinse away food matter. You can mimic this feeling at home by using a water flosser, which is a small hand-held electronic device filled with warm water.

Water flows from the water flosser into your mouth, helping get your gumline and in between your teeth extra clean. While some people use a water flosser instead of actual floss, it's most effective to use both in a complementary fashion.

Don't Skimp on Flossing

Speaking of flossing, right after a dental cleaning is the perfect time to strengthen your flossing habits. If you're only an occasional flosser, upgrade your flossing to a daily habit right after your cleaning when your teeth are extra clean and free of tartar. Flossing on a daily basis is one of the most effective ways to remove food debris before it hardens and leads to plaque and gum inflammation.

Switch to an Electric Toothbrush

Another great way to upgrade your oral care routine and keep that dentist-clean feeling is to switch out your manual toothbrush for an electric model. Electric toothbrushes takes all the effort out of toothbrushing, doing a more thorough and vigorous job than you can do on your own. The rotating bristles on an electric toothbrush can reach into places a regular toothbrush can't, helping to eliminate plaque and tartar build-up, or preventing it from forming in the first place.

Try a Tongue Scraper

Sometimes even after you brush your teeth, your mouth feels less than fresh and you may experience unpleasant breath. This is because bacteria on your tongue also needs to be cleaned and removed to maintain an extra clean mouth. Brushing your tongue is one way to do this, but using a tongue scraper is even more effective.

By spending extra care and time on your teeth, you will not only keep them healthier, but will also get to enjoy that fresh from the dentist feeling for longer. For more information, talk to a professional like Robert J Bauder DMD.
