1. Chew Sugar-Free Gum
One of the easiest things you can do is to take sugar free gum with you everywhere you go. When you chew gum it helps to get into the crevices and small space of the teeth, where good could get stuck, and pull out any remaining sugars and foods. This is a simple way to clean the teeth off and make sure that any pieces of food that remained are removed.
It should be mentioned that you shouldn't chew the gum for too long. Although it will help to digest the food and clean the teeth, it can also put stress on your jaw and people who chew gum throughout the day risk having problems with TMJ. So just chew the gum for a short period before you dispose of it.
2. Drink More Water
Water should be drunk after every meal whether or not you are able to brush your teeth. Water is a great way to neutralize all of the acid in your mouth that is leftover from the food that you just ate. For instance, if you had sugar, the candy will stay in your mouth, rotting your teeth. So always take a glass of water and swish it through your mouth after you eat. Do this a couple times to make sure that you are really getting it everywhere and catching any forgotten food.
3. Use a Tooth Pick
Many times the reason people get cavities is not because they don't brush, but because they don't floss. You have small particles of food stuck in your teeth all the time. This is why in some cases it is even more important to floss. This is especially true after you eat. Many restaurants don't carry dental floss, but they do have toothpicks. Use the toothpick to clean out each tooth after every meal. This will be a great way to protect your teeth and prevent cavities.
