Three Ways Having Less-Than-White Teeth Are Impacting Your Life

Posted on: 8 April 2018

Most people feel happiest when their teeth look their best. If your teeth are yellow or stained, chances are you aren't too happy about it. Unfortunately, you might not be the only one. Having white teeth makes a good first impression no matter where you go, but having teeth that are discolored can have a negative impact on everything you do. Here are three ways that your stained teeth are messing up your life.

Dating

Going on a first date is tough for most people, especially when you want everything to be perfect. Unfortunately, studies have shown that people often judge others by appearances, including their teeth. This study revealed that people who had discolored, damaged, or crooked teeth were considered to be less attractive by the participants. Some people surveyed went so far as to say that bad teeth were a deal-breaker, meaning that no matter what you have to offer, your teeth could be standing in the way of having a great relationship.

Job Interviews

Getting a job interview to be perfect can be difficult - everything from what you're wearing to the firmness of your handshake is important. Your teeth should be something you're considering, too.

Employers tend to favor people who have nicer looking teeth. Even if you have the skills that the potential employer is looking for, if they don't like the way that your teeth looks, you could end up not landing the job. While this may seem frustrating and unfair, it's unfortunately a reality and something to keep in mind before you attend an interview.

Networking

Lastly, consider how important it is to have an image of yourself set up on social media for networking purposes. Whether you're looking to make new associations in your career field, at school, or you're hoping to entice potential employers by listing your skills and qualifications on a site like LinkedIn, the first thing people see is your picture. Of course, if you're smiling and showing your teeth, your less-than-perfect chompers will be on display and noticeable by anyone glancing at your profile.

Unfortunately, simply altering your image with photo manipulation software isn't a great solution. If your teeth look great in your picture and you make a connection with someone, your teeth won't match in real life.

Sadly, there are a lot of downsides to having teeth that don't look their best. On the plus side, it's easy to get your teeth to look amazing again. All you need to do is to visit a cosmetic dentist to have your teeth professionally whitened. Your teeth whitening process will be faster, more effective, and far less dangerous to your gums and teeth. Your smile will be admired by everyone you meet and you can rest assured that your dates and interviews won't be negatively impacted by your smile.
